1967 - 100th Anniversary of Confederation

Hi Everyone. With the impending Canada 150 celebration coming up on July 1st, I have been thinking a lot about the last time that Canada hit a very large milestone. In 1967, I was 7 years old and I remember clearly celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Confederation. In that time it was more of a celebration of those that helped to form our country...the Pioneers. At our elementary school we had a big celebration. My Mom made my sisters and I Pioneer dresses made from my Great Aunt's old dresses that she had given to my Mom.
Last week I asked my Mom if there were any pictures from that time. She felt that there was, so we set out looking for photographs. We looked through many, many photo albums and had a wonderful time reminiscing. But we did not find the photo that we were looking for. A couple of hours later, my Mom called to tell me that she had found it. It was in a frame on the wall right above where we had sat and looked through the albums. We laughed and laughed. I went the next day and picked up the frame with the photo in it, unfortunately the photo had been glued in so it was a little damaged. I was able to scan the photo and edit it to create a layout.

Here is my layout...

Isn't my Mom a talented lady....and aren't we cute? I am the little one in the middle.

Here are some closeups....

I added some stamping to the background.

Product List - Kaisercraft -Storybook Collection paper and stickers, cork Thickers and a tag and enamel shapes from my stash.

I used the sketch #282 from Sketches In Thyme.

I was also inspired by the challenge at Kaisercraft Challenges to use circles and Kaisercraft products. I used circle stamps, stickers & enamel dots.

Hangin' Out At The Grand - Lasting Memories Layout Challenges DT Reveal

Happy Sunday Morning everyone. Time for another Lasting Memories Layout Challenges Design Team Reveal. This is the last challenge for June and we are continuing with the theme of "June Holiday Insights". Today's challenge is - June 25th is Log Cabin Day (Log Cabin Day brings you back to a quieter, simper, more rugged era.) Life was rustic and simple. Make your layout a bit rustic and simple: maybe add some torn edges on your layout, neutrals or a woodsy look to the layout for rustic.

Here is my layout....

This photo was taken in the early Spring last year...on Easter Sunday. The boys are posing for their parents on a walking bridge over the Grand River.

Here are some closeups....

I distressed the edges of my papers with the Tim Holtz distress tool and then inked all the edges with Tim Holtz distress Ink - Walunt stain. I added some stamping and rub-ons to the background to add to the rustic look of my layout.

I paired up some word alphas with Thickers to create my title.

Product List - Heidi Swapp background paper, October Afternoon - Sasparilla paper, die cuts and
rub-ons, Authentique alphas and Thickers. The tag, brad and button are from my stash

Swimming - Makes Me Happy - Lasting Memories Layout Challenges DT Reveal

Here are some closeups...

I typed on my journalling with my WeR Memory Keepers typecast. I love how it fits 12X12 paper so you can plan out your layout and add your journalling directly to the background paper.

Acyrlic paint splatters to mimic splashing in the pool.

Product List - Crate Paper Poolside papers, Gold Foil on Acetate and chipboard (I just love this line of paper....I am down to just a few small pieces left.), Amy Tangerine - Cut & Paste paper, Thikers - SunKissed, Recollections enamel shapes & AC brad.

Papa's Boys - Stuck?! Sketches DT Reveal

Time is just flying by, it is the middle of June already and time for the 15th of June Stuck?! Sketches Design Team Reveal.

Here is my layout....

Since it was so close to Father's Day, I thought it was a perfect time to do a layout of a very special Papa. What is better than a Dad....A "Grand"father!!!

Here are some closeups....

I added cut a heart shape and then used it as a stencil to stamp my background with my favourite music stamp and Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I then added a clock stencil with Tim Holtz texture paste which I rubbed on some ink to colourize it. Layering up lots of sprockets added the final touch to the cluster.

I added a journalling tag slipped inside of a tiny paper bag to add some private thoughts. A couple more sprockets and an Ampersand to finish off the cluster.

Product List: Kaiser Craft - Sears & Son Collection paper, Lucky 7 Factory (Made In Canada) paper, The Paper Studio tag, Canvas Corp mini bag, Adorn It wood shapes, Fancy Pants-Good Fellows Ephemera. The other items are from my stash.

I GOT THE COVER - CREATIVE SCRAPBOOKER MAGAZINE

Hello and happy Monday everyone. I have some exciting news to share with you today. I am honoured to share with you that I GOT THE COVER of the Summer Issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine.

I was asked back in January if I would like to be one of ten artist to compete for the cover of the Summer Issue. Of course I replied,- yes please immediately. I was sent a photo and details on what must be included.

I thought about it for a bit and knew almost immediately what papers I would use,- Jillibean Soup. When I went through my stash, the papers were perfect. So I set out creating my layout. I used lots of different elements to create my layout.

Once submitted, I waited, and waited....I wanted this so badly. About two weeks later, I received an email....
Congratulations Sandy

We will be using your layout on the cover of our summer 2017 issue!!!!  YAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness....a dream come true!!!

Here is the cover of the magazine...

It puts a smile on my face every time I see this magazine!

And here is my layout.....

And some closeups....

I used a stencil with Tim Holtz texture paste to add a little texture to the background. Machine stitching around the outside also adds detail.

Lots of layers under the photo make it the centre of attention.

Different elements and embellishments add to the layering and texture.

A subtitle at the top with a couple more embellies.

Product List: Jillibean Soup – Mushroom Medley & Bean Stalks, Bo Bunny Ephemera, Heidi Swapp Chipboard shape title, Pink Paislee – Artisan Elements, Ranger Texture Paste and distress ink – Vintage Photo, The Crafters Workshop stencil, EK Tools thin foam dots, Glue Dots & Zig glue.

My sister took my picture with my layout and my magazine on Saturday!!! Pinch me!!! It still doesn't feel real!!!

SELFIE - Lasting Memories Layout Challenges DT Reveal

Good morning friends, it is another rainy day here is Southern Ontario...which is a good time for a new Lasting Memories Layout Challenge Design Team Reveal. We are continuing with the theme of "Holiday Insights" for the month of June. Today's challenges - June 4th is Old Maid's Day (Old Maid's Day brings awereness to those of us who have not yet found and caught our soul mates.) So create a layout about a single in your life or even you when you were single or are single.

Here is my layout...

I thought really hard about this one. I couldn't come up with any singles in my life that I wanted to create a layout of. Everyone is happily married or has found their significant other and is in a committed relationship...isn't that wonderful? So I choose to do a layout of one of my grandsons....after all at eight years of age, he hasn't settled on one of the several little girls who chase him around constantly at school.

Here are some closeups...

My journalling says it all. I cut and pasted his email and printed it off on strips.

Product List: Lots of old product used up on this layout. MME papers, stickers, wood button and metallic shapes; Basic Grey stickers. Heidi Swapp glitter title and the arrow clip is from my stash.

I was inspired by the Let's Get Sketchy June 1st sketch.

Be sure to stop by the Lasting Memories Blog and see what the rest of the team has created. You have until the end of the month to join in.
